Problems with Htacess / nothing found For...

Hello there!

I installed the plugin for htaccess security, and i must admit defeat in configuring it correctly...

It seems to be working for me when Im logged into the admin account (sometimes), but for other people it seems to kill the permalinks for my site..

i put the htpasswd1 file above teh root of my webserver, may i just show an example of my structure :


/leafblade/ - this is the directory above my www folder (where i put my password file)

/leafblade/leafblade.net/ - this is my www folder

/leafblade/leafblade.net/leafy/ - this is my wordpress folder

/leafblade/leafblade.net - this is where my index file is for wordpress (so people just have to type http://leafblade.net to access my site, rather than http://leafblade.net/leafy/)



i hope so far this makes sense.

I use permalinks for my site, so I dont know if this is an issue (i guess permalinks modify the htaccess file yes?)


the problem is, when i have the plugin enabled, only the admin can access wp-admin and dashboard (i guess this is the idea of the plugin)

but most of the other pages on my site throw up a 404 when users try to access them. I update my permalinks again to try and fix it and still have some problems... it seems to fix problems with site viewing but the dashboard is still off limits....


Question : would i have to manually edit the htaccess files to fix this?

Question : is it possible to allow users to access the dashboard without a htaccess password?
(i wanted to just protect teh directory from direct file access, but allow users to still use functions through wordpress without htaccess)

Question : do permalinks effect this plugin?

Question : does teh fact that my main wordpress index file is a directory above the main wordpress directory?

right now i have the plugin disabled, and all htaccess files deleted (because i have to go out today, and i want my site working until i can resolve this issue)


has anyone else had this problem?

any advice is appreciated!
